Devotional: Victory in Surrendering to Jesus Christ

John 3:30

He must INCREASE, but I must decrease

Romans 8:26
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

SURRENDER (according to Merriam-Webster as intransitive verb): to give oneself up into the power of another: yield
This weekend we are hosting small groups at our house on Friday and Sunday. Usually I try to have the house somewhat in order (yes, for those who have seen it, in my world, that IS “order”! Now you know!), although this time, even though I have been going all week, doing things around this place, I don’t see improvement. Tomorrow morning I hope to be up scurrying around, trying to make things presentable.
Now with the Lord opening a door for us to host a monthly group on Sunday as well, I hopefully will be inspired to keep the house neater on a regular basis (I really don’t think I will let Jonathan read this, just in case it doesn’t quite work out that way!).
For the past two weeks I have been working a lot on closets, cabinets and drawers. How many of us, when hosting, opens up everything for everyone to see? I think I remember my cousin having glass cabinet fronts at one time and I thought how nice that would be, until I opened mine!

When company comes, even expected, I know I toss things in a closet, drawer or room and shut the door. Is that how we are with the Lord? Are there areas of our lives that we just don’t want Him to “see”? We know He is aware of what is behind those “closed doors”, but we have to willingly open up every part of us to let Him truly reign as Ruler.
When you buy a house, you buy every part of it. There’s no keeping anything “off limits” to the owner. Christ bought us with His blood and He has Supreme Authority over us. For the Holy Spirit to INDWELL within us, there can’t be any secret compartments. We have to be willing to purge things in our lives where it and the Lord cannot both “fit”.

Like those glass-front cabinets, the Lord wants us to be transparent and not have anything in our lives of which we are ashamed, embarrassed or hiding. We can show the Lord ANYTHING! He can take our messes! Nothing we open the doors to show or admit to Him will take our Savior by surprise or horrify Him!
Our God is not going to take a look at what we have done and reject us because we are just the worst case scenario He has ever seen! Through His power, we can clean out those areas of chaos in our lives! Our God is not the Author of confusion, He is about order and Truth, cleanliness!
Surrender is not partial! Are we willing to give ourselves totally over to the Lord in obedience? Our lives did not become the way they were overnight, nor did we accumulate so much stuff at one time. We progress by not turning back to pick up old or reaching out for new, ungodly practices along the way! We are not cleaning out to make room for different junk! That just takes us right back to where we were!

Cleaning is not easy! There certainly may be tears and frustration at the things we are called to purge, but consider the reward of results!

Father God

Maker of the Heavens and the Earth

You, Lord, are about order

You set everything in motion, O God

By Your Authority all creation came into existence
Merciful Lord, please give us the desire to obey You

To open up the deep recesses of our lives

That you already know is there

To confess to You, Lord

That there are areas in our lives that we did not want to admit
Almighty King

Thank You for the grace and mercy You show us

As we come before You, unlocking doors we wanted to keep shut

Things we rather not admit to others, You, or even ourselves
Maybe in our lives we want to hold on to that we know in our heart

Is not pleasing to You

We may fear that if we confess these things, You may convict us to walk away from something we enjoy
Please bring our hearts to obedience, Father

Giving us more joy in following You than attachment to whatever You may want us to leave behind
In the Name of Jesus, we know that we have the power to abandon anything for the sake of obeying You and submission to Your perfect will for our lives.
By the Blood of Jesus

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
