DEVOTIONAL: Milk or Meat..The Appropriate Diet For Personal Spiritual Growth

1 Peter 2:2-3
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

It has been over 22 years since I had a young child, but I remember making sure my children had the nourishment they needed to grow.

Yes, there were the hamburgers and fast foods, but it would have been irresponsible and unreasonable for me to have maintained that diet on a consistent basis and expect them to enjoy good health.

Our Lord and Savior feeds His children by providing physical, tangible food and the spirit by His Scripture.

His Word gives us life and nourishes our hearts and spirits..

As a child grows and starts needing more for nourishment, so the Children of God require a more substantial diet as we mature.

The spirit of a new Believer or an “infant” in Christ, would not digest something too advanced; likewise, someone who has been a Believer for a while requires something more substantial in order to continue growing.

Father God

Thank You for Your Inspired Word

Glory to our Great Provider!
Please let us not seek out meat
Before we are ready

Nor cling to “milk” when we need to progress to

The next stage of spiritual food

Your Word says:
1 Corinthians 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
Hebrews 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

You are NOT the Lord of confusion
So You do not push us on to something we are unprepared to handle

Neither are You the Lord of laziness and stagnation
Allowing us contentment in complacency

Gently Your Holy Spirit encourages us to advance
Your MILK is sweet and perfect, Holy God

Father, please let us yearn to indulge in Your Delicious Word!

Please give us an appetite for the delicacies within Scripture. Allow us to savor every sip, each bite!
Only You can satisfy our hunger! We want to realize the reality of Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.

In the Name of Jesus

There’s A Sweet, Sweet Spirit In This Place

O Taste And See That The Lord Is Good

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
