DEVOTION: A Craving for God’s Sweet Word

Written The Eve of New Years’ Eve 2014 for devotion time

Good evening! I hope everyone had a wonderful day. Well, tomorrow is it, the last day of 2014. What has been, has been… what is, is for now.. what is to come, only the Lord knows!

Psalm 119:103
How sweet are Thy Words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth

Tonight I was preparing some of the food for a dinner we are hosting tomorrow night, naturally, “taste testing” is required!

I was in the kitchen (unsupervised), while Jonathan and Charles were in the den, neck-high in bowl games.

Finally, there was a lapse in football, so my guys decided they were hungry and wanted to know what I would like to eat! Well, I didn’t exactly ‘fess up, to sampling my goods, so I just agreed to whatever they decided to go get and bring back.

They returned and went straight back to watching sports again, as I went in there with them, using the “girly”, “I don’t want to watch football”, as an excuse to take a majority of my dinner back to refrigerate for later.

I was so full, nothing else appealed to me.

Looking at our verse for tonight, thinking about the Sweet Words of our Lord and Savior, let’s jump in and devour what He has to say for us! Let’s just eat up every tasty morsel He gives us in Scripture, to the point that we are so full of Truth, we have no desire nor room for anything else!

Precious God and Father
We give thanks today for Your Word
For the Love Letter You have written us, O God

Merciful King
You did not just throw us out here on this planet
Into the vastness of the universe

We are not some random group of cells just happening to take form
Awesome Lord
We are Your creation
Fearfully and wonderfully made
Thank You that You are mindful of us!
That You sent Your Son to sacrifice His life for ours

Fill us, please, with Your Words
Please help us take Scripture to heart and into our minds
Release the Truth into our souls, to our marrow, let it course through our veins

Let it, please, be such a part of who we are
We are as aware of It as or own heartbeat
To a point we could not, nor would we want to
Function without It!

Please let us allow the Scriptures to sustain us
To nourish our very being

Lord, we do not want to have an appetite for what the world has to offer, it is poisonous and empty. It’s ways lead to death.

Please let us hunger and thirst for Your Word, alone! We want to crave Its incredible sweetness! How delightful is each Morsel, every nugget of Truth!

Your Word is crispy, crunchy, ooey, gooey, smooth and tender! The texture is magnificent and the temperature perfect!

We give You praise for the buffet of spiritual blessing! May we thankfully delight in the feast our Father provides!

Please let us mature and graduate from the milk to the meat of Your Word, as we yearn to grow in our knowledge and understanding of our Precious Lord.

Our Father, let us realize the Word is right there, available to us, always, as is the Spirit Who will help us when we seek understanding.

Let us not starve ourselves when we have all we need within reach.

We so appreciate the opportunity we have to study, learn and discuss our faith openly, without fear of penalty, punishment or death

Almighty God, open our eyes to the importance of NOT squandering these rights
They are privileges, not entitlements!

Please, too, we ask
Be with our sisters and brothers who face persecution
Please give them peace and strength as they persevere, bringing You glory

We ask for the ones who do not know You, that You would make Yourself real to them, O God
We cannot, nor do we want to, understand what facing this world today would be like without a relationship with the Eternal Lord

In the Name of Jesus

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
