Devotional: God’s Gift of Wisdom

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

It seems as though every devotional at some way or another, intersects with the issue of prayer. (Rhetorical) Have you ever made a decision without asking God to direct you or did you stray from what you believe He was leading you to do or choose? What was the outcome? Exactly.

Along with seeking and asking for wisdom, we also need spiritual discernment to understand His direction. Then the ball is in our court, so to say. Have you ever sought out and asked for wisdom, yet avoided reading, praying or even fasting because in your heart, you did not want the answer to be contrary to what you really wanted? Romans 7:18For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. 20But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.…

What do we do with the wisdom we are given? Why did we seek it? Have you ever bought something for your child or grandchild that they just “had to have”, only to find it unused or barely touched? Is that the way we treat the gift of wisdom? Inline image 1WISDOM is not a frivolous toy, an entitlement for God’s children. The fact that our Father can AFFORD to distribute it liberally, does not mean we should ask for something we aren’t going to use!

You know how some gift cards or a new debit/credit card has a number to call? We MUST activate wisdom. The Lord will give it, He says so and He cannot lie. Do we just want it there tucked in our spiritual wallet, waiting for some time of great significance? An emergency or “rainy day”? Our Father’s supply of wisdom is limitless! That does not just apply to His grace, mercy, love and forgiveness! No decision is too small! He will guide us about whether or not to get a dog to our choice of a life mate.

Let us teach our children (yes, again by example) the importance of asking for and exercising God-given wisdom in all aspects of our lives!

Great King, Almighty God

Thank You for being available to us

Thank You for the promises of wisdom

For those who seek it

Father God

Please do not let us believe what the world teaches

That wisdom is directly related to intellect

That those without higher education certainly

Would not be privy to such blessings

Lord, YOU are the Giver of wisdom

You bestow upon those YOU chose

If that happens to be someone with a high IQ

Or an illiterate

Let Your Name be lifted up as the One Who

Allows knowledge and understanding

Take each of us

Make us

Mold us

Please use us

As Your vessel

Your Word will not return void, O God

Please show our children

Is truly wise

Let them seek it out as a precious jewel

Let them migrate toward others with the same desire

In and through the PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS,

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
