Devotional: Storms will come

Dearest Sister Soldiers,
Hello, I hope all of you enjoyed a beautiful Saturday.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7

Anyone having known me any length of time, knows full well how much I hate storms and even more so, driving in them!

When my children were in school, I had wonderful friends who would call or expect a call from me on a stormy day and asked if I wanted them to bring my children home after school; realizing that I was very fearful of driving that ¼ mile to school and back. My children, likewise, were well aware that if they came out for the pickup line and it looked ominous, they should look for one of my friends to summon them into their car.

One day I was on a trip back home from visiting someone and I had a pretty good distance to go. Gradually, the sky turned darker and darker. It was the early in the day, so I knew these were storm clouds approaching. Jonathan was driving us, but I knew he wouldn’t stop for anything, so I was very much intimidated by what I saw before me.

As my eyes watered and my throat grew dry, Jonathan was less able to console my concerns, as he was navigating through now pouring down rain. Then I head it, not audibly, but in my spirit, that Sweet, Quiet Voice, asking me to look in front of me.

I was prompted to look at the cars driving on the other side of the interstate from the opposite direction. You see, the Lord acknowledged, yes, I was in the midst of a storm, but, although it looked scary to me from where I was, there were others who were coming out of it and they were clearly just fine.

In life we see these same things; sometimes we are in the midst of a situation and the Lord brings someone into our lives who has gone through the same or similar issues. Other times we are the ones on the clear side of the “storm” and we are there to encourage another.

Psalm 30:5King James Version (KJV)

5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

Precious Heavenly Father

Thank You for Your Truth

We praise You for Your faithfulness and understanding

When times seem bleak and

Suffering unbearable

You understand

Please make Your presence known to us

In times of uncertainty

Please allow a sound mind and peaceful heart

Lord, please let us listen to what others say about what they went through

And let us find hope through their testimony of faith in You

Likewise, God, please give us opportunity to share what You have done

For us, and how through You we were able to persevere in

What we could not have done in our own strength.

In the Name of Emanuel, God with us,

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
